Lord Elgin Thin Thin 1801Y 18K

18K gold Elgins are rather rare, and even though I spent more than I should have, I wanted to add this Thin Thin to my collection. As far as my references go, I can’t find the case 1801Y listed. So what letter designation this watch has is unknown at this point. What I can say is that some solid gold watches are heavy and some are rather light. This example, definitely falls into hefty category. The original owner definitely got a good amount of gold for his money.

As to the watch itself, the bezel was extremely scratched when it arrived. I polished it to the best of my abilities and think it turned out what I would say, 70% improved. The dial is absolutely beautiful and is testament to the fact that Elgin produced some very poor Thin Thin dials, as well as some very good ones that matched the quality of higher end brands. The markers are applied, and I would guess are 18K filled.
