1963 Lord Elgin, 18K Gold Case 1517

18K gold Elgins are far and few between, so when I saw this available I had to have it. It uses the case number 1517 and so far, we haven’t found a name for it.

It uses the 23 jewel, 770 movement. The watch was a retirement present for an employee of the Humble Oil Company, which in the 1960s would become Exxon Oil.

Its a rather hefty watch and it has a nice curative which fits one’s wrist nicely. I very lucky to have added this to my collection.

By the way, Kurt Ryerson found the crystal for this watch in the GS catalogue under 7517. It is CMX392-17.
