Glycine Airman DC 4 GL0072
One type of watch I hoped to add to my collection is one with a true 24 hour movement. I had hoped to snag a vintage 24 hour Elgin, but the prices on eBay are out of control. Recently, I came across a great deal on the Glycine Airman DC 4 GL0072, which is a true 24 hour watch.
The Glycine labels the movement as the GL293, which is in fact a slightly modified ETA 2983. It has 25 jewels, runs at 28,8000 BPH, and has a power reserve of 42 hours. Glycine uses the elaborated version of the 2983-2, which is adjusted to 3 positions.
It has a sapphire crystal with 3 coats of antireflective coating which does a great job of making the black dial easy to read in all lighting conditions.
The hands and the painted hour markers use Super-LumiNova, which glows all night long.
The 24 hour bezel can be used as GMT, uses crown at 4 o’clock (as a throwback to the original watch from the 50s) to adjust it.
The watch is 42mm and it seems to wear smaller on the wrist.
