Elgin Miami, 17 Jewel Swiss Manual Movement
The watch came with radium burned dial–not bad, but when I came across a NOS dial, I knew I had to replace it.
The case is stainless steel, number 5918. It is in really nice shape, with the brush marks still intact.
The movement is something I haven’t seen before (pretty sure it is common), a Swiss, Elgin branded 17 jewel, 630 movement.
As I noted, the dial had radium burns, but the hands didn’t seem to be lumed. When I installed the new watch, I noticed the the back of the hands were lumed, accounting for the burn. I think it was part of Elgin’s “Night Glo” series.
I put it on a period Crown center expansion band with black leather inserts to match the new dial.
