Elgin 6853 with the 27 Jewel 761 Automatic Movement

I picked up this Elgin, with the case number 6853, recently from eBay and it just returned from the watchmaker. It was fully serviced and a broken spring lever was replaced.

The watch uses the Elgin Durapower 761 automatic movement.  It uses 27 jewels and is supposed to be waterproof (as it has a screw in caseback) and anti-magnetic.   This particular watch is all stainless steel.

The case itself has a very low profile and it measures 33mm edge to edge, excluding the crown.  Aesthetically, the case is polished on the top and is brushed on its sides.  The look seems very modern to me.

Condition wise, the case and crystal are in excellent shape, as are the hands and markers.  The silver dial does show an even patina and it almost looks as if it “was meant” to be the original motif.

Hopefully, the American made lizard band that I ordered arrives soon so that I can replace the cheap Chinese “leather” feels likes plastic band that came with it.
