1960’s Benrus Alarm Watch
I just received this Benrus alarm watch yesterday. I spent some time polishing the case and the crystal today and I added a nice black leather strap. I believe this watch uses a Swiss 17 jewel manual movement. From 10 to 2, it measures 34mm and the lugs are 16mm across. For being 50 years old, it is in great shape. The case band bezel have a few minor dings and scratches, but it looks almost new to me. An added bonus was that both crowns are original.
I have photos below and below that, a video of the alarm in action. One nice thing about buying vintage is that instead of spending $3000-$4000 on a new Vulcain alarm watch, I have one for less than $150!
Update: Here’s some update information about the watch.
-wrist alarm 6840 Swiss 411 (on dial)
-the case is one piece and the movement is reached by popping off the crystal.
– the back of the case reads : waterproof, shockabsorbing, dustproof, Series #3021, 0pen thru crystal, 20 micron gold electroplated base metal bezel
-Movement-17 jewels, model DS 10, dual spring, 1475 alarm. DS 10 is in actuality and Adolf Schild caliber 1475
-power reserve of 46 hours
-alarm lasts 12 seconds
