Revue Thommen 16066.2532 Moon Phase

I’ve been looking to add a full calendar watch to my collection and after a couple of disappointments, I finally settled upon the Revue Thommen 16066.2532 Moon Phase watch.

The watch has a classic look and build.  The dial is silver guilloche with polished, hand applied numerals.  The day and month wheels are at the top middle of the dial, while the moon phase and date are located at the 6 o’clock position.

The case is highly polished , punctuated only by four buttons to adjust the month, day, date, and moon phase.

The crystal is perfectly clear and that is attributable to the double anti-reflective coatings.

The rear crystal is sapphire as well.  The movement is only slightly decorated.  At this price, at little more attention to at least the rotor was called for.

The leather band is one of the best of received with a new watch. Very high quality, and it rates with those found on my Frederique Constant and Oris.

The deployant clasp is a let down.  I’ve have this variety on several other watches and it just isn’t very elegant compared to those on my Frederique Constant and Oris Big Crown.

Overall, the dial is the main attraction of this watch.  The center guilloche shimmers and it seems you could touch it through the nearly invisible crystal.

One last item of note is the box.  Some companies put their watches in very nice boxes, but Revue Thommen doesn’t.  It is functional and it comes with a warranty card and one page printed copy on how to operate the watch.

Even though the box (a minor concern), the plain movement (other watch makers are guilty of this as well in this price range) and the deployant clasp disappoint (but, as I noted, several other watch makers use this same clasp as well), the beautifully crafted guilloche dial, the highly polished bezel and case, the full calendar, and outstanding leather strap more than overcome any negatives.

Overall, the craftsmanship on the case, dial, and band are top notch.  The watch itself has a nice weight to it that gives it a feel of quality as well.  I’d put it on par with my Frederique Constant Moon Phase watch, which is quite a compliment.
